Essendon star Darcy Parish is touch-and-go to return from a corked calf towards West Coast however the Bombers are assured their midfield can thrive regardless.

In Parish’s absence, younger weapons Jy Caldwell, Archie Perkins and Ben Hobbs thrived with extra centre-bounce time towards St Kilda,.
Rutten hoped that in the long term these gamers, plus Jake Stringer’s return, would cut back any reliance on ball magnet Parish.
“It’s a balance about making sure we get some cohesion out of our guys through there but also we’ve got some good options as well,” he stated.
“So just balancing that up. I don’t think it’s too difficult. But when the opportunity’s there, Darcy was out and we had a guy come in and fill his role, that’s what we’re after.
“We do not need to be too reliant on Darcy or some other particular person.”
Other midfielders stepping up could also allow Parish to swing forward.
“They’re the kinds of issues we mentioned and skilled a bit all through our pre-season,” Rutten stated.
“All through the course of this season up to now, most likely missing a little bit of our personnel and availability’s meant we have not been ready to do this as a lot as we might like
“But hopefully as we start to get some troops back and some more availability, we’ll have the ability to do that a little bit more.”
The Bombers might be with out half-back Andrew McGrath for not less than two weeks after he re-injured his adductor towards St Kilda.
Rutten would not be drawn particularly on potential curiosity in Collingwood free agent Jordan De Goey.
The Magpies have put contract talks with De Goey on maintain till season’s finish after his partying in Bali.
“We’re pretty open to looking at all the players who are available. That’s our responsibility as a club to look at that,” Rutten stated.
“That’s not one of those things I think we want to talk too much about, having ongoing commentary about that
“(We’re) getting clear on what our wants are and if we will add to our checklist all through the free company interval, that is going to be what we’re making an attempt to do.”
