In this Viennese ‘Tatort’ the feelings go crazy: Moritz Eisner is having an affair, Bibi Fellner wants to embrace alcohol out of loneliness, and the murder of the head of the police school reveals a lot of hatred. The ARD repeated this very good case on Friday.
What’s the matter?
In the middle of the night, Major Moritz Eisner (Harald Krassnitzer) and colleague Bibi Fellner (Adele Neuhauser) are called to a crime scene: The head of the police school, of all people, is dead in his house, and the body of his wife can be found one floor above. At first everything points to a relationship drama, but it quickly becomes clear that an unknown person is the killer. Particularly spicy: the fatal shots came from a service weapon. And because Fellner and Eisner are arguing anyway, the majoress is transferred to the police school to investigate undercover. Macho trainer Thomas Nowak (Simon Hatzl) makes life difficult for Fellner there.
Why is this ‘crime scene’ worthwhile?
‘Defenseless’ lives above all from the play between the main actors and small details, such as when the seedy bar operator Inkasso Heinzi (Simon Schwarz) tells in a beautifully bizarre flashback of blackmailing the murder victim.
What’s annoying?
The crime thriller paints too much black and white: Instructor Nowak, for example, is evil personified. You can easily hate him as a spectator, but his role is too template-like. And some things could certainly have been told faster – or less predictably.
The commissioners?
is lonely. So lonely that she even sets up a dating profile on the website ‘Lonely Hearts’ and becomes jealous when her colleague Eisner takes care of his private life without her. And so lonely that the dry alcoholic is toying with drinking again. The Viennese mix private and professional life a lot in this episode, becoming personal: ‘I can be as dry as the Sahel desert and you would still blame me for drinking,’ shouts Fellner, for example. That is what makes this case so strong. Loud arguments and reconciliations provide momentum in the crime thriller.
