At the ‘RTL Summer Games’, more than 30 celebrities from different nations compete against each other in 14 Olympic disciplines. Thorsten Legat was particularly combative in the run-up.
The European football championship has been played and it will be a few days before the Olympic Games in Tokyo open. If you still don’t want to do without sport and excitement, RTL has the right offer for you: ‘The RTL Summer Games’. On Friday and Saturday evenings, more than 30 celebrities from different nations will compete against each other at prime time. They challenge each other in 14 Olympic disciplines – including table tennis, track cycling, wrestling and hurdles.
Is this a fun event or are the participants serious? Anyone who attended the press conference at the Müngersdorfer Stadion in Cologne at the end of June can only come to one conclusion: many of those involved are damned serious. Above all Thorsten Legat was bursting with ambition. The former professional footballer made it clear that only one win was possible for him. ‘There is only one word: Kasalla,’ he said, referring to his battle cry, which has become famous from the jungle camp.
Like the other candidates, Legat has been training for some time and is preparing for his duties at the ‘Summer Games’. There he will face strong competition – because the other candidates made it clear that they are not willing to leave the field to Legat without a fight.
‘RTL Summer Games’: Kevin Großkreutz eats what he wants
However, not all are ready to go to their limits for this. When asked whether the competitors pay attention to their diet, soccer world champion Kevin Großkreutz said in his usual open-hearted manner: ‘I’ll give myself what I want.’
In addition to Großkreutz and Legat, Alessandra Meyer-Wölden, Sabrina Mockenhaupt, Luna Schweiger, and Matthias Steiner were also present – all of them people with a sports background. Meyer-Wölden used to be a tennis player, Mockenhaupt is a multiple German champion in long-distance running, Til-Schweiger-daughter-Luna has participated in many tournaments as a show jumper and Matthias Steiner is world and Olympic champion in weightlifting.

Elena, Danni and the crowned prince: these moments will be remembered
A heavily occupied field, from which actually no obvious favorite stands out at first. With the exception of legacy, which classifies itself as such. The former professional footballer from Werder Bremen was so thick that the presenter Laura Papendick wanted to lure him out of the reserve: ‘Thorsten, that has to be a gold medal when you announce your fight.’ Born in Bochum, however, it was clear that he didn’t need any additional incentive: ‘I’m competing for Germany. There couldn’t be more motivation. ‘
The ‘RTL Summer Games’ will be broadcast on July 16 and 17, 2021 at 8.15 p.m.
